This Sunday

This Sunday we continue with scripture from Matthew, chapter 15. Pastor Bob's sermon title is "Telling It Like It Is".

Heaven Sent Project

The Heaven Sent Project's first attempt at giving back was a huge success! Thank you to all who donated to help purchase the totes. We were able to make 46 Chemo Care Totes. I say we because it was not just me, I could not have done this without all of you! This brings me to the next project. Jackie came across a post for Pediatric Cancer Bags and showed it to me. We thought it was a great idea and we should give it a try. We decided to include the Pediatric Ward as well and distribute the bags among are hospitals. This bag will be a Cinch Sac filled with kid-friendly items such as coloring books, crayons and games to help keep kids distracted during treatments and hospital stays. I will include some other items in the bags as well. It works the same way a the totes. A $20 donation will cover the cost of the bag and I will purchase items with my commission to fill them. If you are interested in donating to this project, please see me or call me at 570-350-1070. Donations and orders need to be in by August 27. Thanks! Jenny Bogart

StroudFest September 2, 2017

Once again this year, SUMC will be participating in StroudFest on Saturday, September 2. Set up at 9 am; StroudFest runs from 11 am - 6 pm. We will be selling food and drinks on Main Street. Food, monetary donations AND volunteers are needed. Please contact me in the church office if you can help out in ANY way, even if it's just for an hour that day. Proceeds will be split between the remaining bell tower repair fund and the heating and a/c unit fund. Thank you! Jackie

New Member Class

Pastor Bob will be leading a new member class starting on Sunday, August 20 at 9:45 am. We will meet in the small Conference Room. The class will continue the following week on August 27. If you're interested in joining SUMC as an offical member, please come to the class this Sunday.

Worship Leader Training/Refresher

For those currently serving as worship leader and anyone who is interested in learning. Sunday, August 27 at 12:30 pm in the sanctuary.

Weekly sermons at SUMC

Do you enjoy listening to the weekly sermons here at SUMC? Would you like to listen to them even when you are on vacation or out of town? Well, we do have all the sermons available for you to listen to and they are typically posted to our church website each Sunday. And if you have an iPod or iPad, you can subscribe to the sermons so they will automatically be downloaded to your device for easy listening! To sign up for the automatic feed, go to our sermon page: and then click on the iTunes logo. This will connect you to our iTunes page where you can listen to the sermons or view them in iTunes where you can sign up for the automatic feed. Share this link with your friends and family members. We hope you enjoy this way of staying connected to our sermons here at SUMC.

Children's Bulletins Available

Children's bulletins are available at the back of the sanctuary. There are two groups - ages 3-6 and ages 7-12.

Our Special Person of the Week:

Jill Warner, Spring Village at Pocono, 329 E. Brown Street, Apt. 234, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Please remember her in prayer and if possible, please send a card.

Sanctuary Open for Prayer

The church sanctuary is open to the public for prayer and/or quiet reflection on Wednesdays from noon to 1 pm. You are invited to take advantage of this time if you are in town during the week, and please let your friends know also. Years ago churches were open during the week for anyone to wander in to pray, however now, because of safety concerns, most churches stay locked. We would like the community to know we are an active and "alive" church and offer this opportunity to anyone who needs a quiet space, even if it is only for one hour a week. Please share with your friends and family.

Memorial Tree Leaves

We are taking orders for memorial tree leaves. Each leaf costs $25.00 and will be imprinted with the name and year of your choice. Pet names can be added, too! Order forms are in the back of the sanctuary. Please make your check payable to SUMC and note for "Memorial Tree Leaf" in the memo portion. Completed order forms and payment may be left in the box outside Jackie's office or placed in the offering plate. Please contact the church office with any questions. Proceeds from the sale of memorial leaves will be put toward the remaining bell tower repair bill. Thank you!

Stewardship and Property & Building Update

The Stewardship Committee and the Property & Building Committee are seeking donations to help fund a new heating and air conditioning unit for the church offices. The church offices have been without air conditioning for two summers. A new unit will eliminate the need for space heaters in the winter. The total needed to complete this project is $5,380.00. If you can help, please place your donations in the offering plate marked for "Heating and Air Conditioning Unit" or mail your checks to the church office. If you have questions, please contact the church office or a member of either Property & Building or Stewardship. Thank you!

Common Threads

A unique clothing venue offering gently used men's, women's and children's clothing for just $1.00. Located at Stroudsburg High School, 1100 W. Main Street (entrance to the left of the HS entrance). Summer hours are every Friday in August 9am-12pm. It is unique, in that, it is managed and operated by students with disabilities. Holly Day Market Vendors Wanted

This year's Holly Day Market will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2017. Vendors are still needed. Please contact the church office for an application.

Soup Kitchen Help Needed

Beryl Hellgren is seeking help with the soup kitchen duties. She is unable to handle all of the tasks herself. Volunteers are needed to inventory the pantry downstairs, schedule soup kitchen volunteers and volunteer a few Sunday's during the year when she needs people. Another person is also needed to help out with the recycling. Dick Seip has been taking care of this himself for quite some time and could use a hand (or two!) These tasks may seem monumental and daunting but they're really not. If you can help out in ANY way please contact Beryl or the church office. Thank you!

Jars for Jam Needed

If you have any empty jam jars at home from jam you have purchased in previous years, please bring them to church so they may be reused for this year's batches of jam. Please make sure the jars are clean. Thank you!

M & E Tract Program

Our church mission is "Share the Love of Jesus in Innovative and Compassionate Ways". The Membership & Evangelism Committee has developed a tract program which will be an excellent tool to help you share the gospel with others. This system has been referred to as "Silent Missionaries". A tract is a folded printed piece of paper that starts with a story or provoking question which invites persons to think about their relationship with Christ. On September 10th, racks (a gift of Charles Armitage) containing the tracts will be placed in the Narthex (Main front entry) and the elevator foyer.

A variety of missions are supported in our church. You can make a difference both locally and around the world by giving to these missions. A list of missions we support is posted in the Fellowship Room. You can also suggest a new mission that interests you by providing the name and address of the mission, as well as some details about what this particular mission does. Thank you for your continued support! If you have any questions, please see a member of the Missions Team or call the church office.
