This Sunday

This Sunday's message is "Crying to God" and we'll hear scripture from Habakkuk 1:1-4, 2:1-4. We'll have a baptism at the 11 o'clock service, too! Hope you will join us on Sunday!

Pastor Bob's Blog

Pastor Bob has started blogging once again:

Table Project

Table Project is an online church software program that allows church members and friends to sit at a virtual table. One cool feature is that we can post prayer requests on the table and others can respond by praying for the person. When the prayer is prayed, you can indicate that the person has been prayed for on the page and a running count of how many prayers were lifted up! Another feature allows Small Groups to stay connected privately among themselves and only themselves. The leaders of the Small Groups will have the option of opening their Table page to everyone or just those who are members of their Small Group. If the group is private then no one else sees their content. A feature I really like is called Serve. Here we can post the different volunteer needs we have in the church. We can explain in detail what the need is and people can sign up to volunteer for this specific need. Pretty cool, huh? I believe our new Stroudsburg UMC Table Project will be helpful to us on a number of levels to stay connected with one another. Go to this new page and sign up today! Then fill out your profile and start exploring the content we already started. Add some content of your own: prayer requests, volunteer opportunities, etc.

Weekly sermons at SUMC

Do you enjoy listening to the weekly sermons here at SUMC? Would you like to listen to them even when you are on vacation or out of town? Well, we do have all the sermons available for you to listen to and they are typically posted to our church website each Sunday. And if you have an iPod or iPad, you can subscribe to the sermons so they will automatically be downloaded to your device for easy listening! To sign up for the automatic feed, go to our sermon page: and then click on the iTunes logo. This will connect you to our iTunes page where you can listen to the sermons or view them in iTunes where you can sign up for the automatic feed. Share this link with your friends and family members. We hope you enjoy this way of staying connected to our sermons here at SUMC.

Our Special Member of the Week:

Carol Romansky, 4 South Kistler Street, Apt. 118, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Please remember her in prayer and if possible, please send a card.

Youth Group Fundraiser Update

Our Youth Group had sales totaling $960.00 for the Yankee Candle Fundraiser. They earned a $384.00 profit toward their 2017 Mission Trip. Thank you to everyone who contributed.

Sanctuary Open for Prayer

The church sanctuary will be open to the public for prayer and/or quiet reflection on Wednesdays from noon to 1 pm. You are invited to take advantage of this time if you are in town during the week, and please let your friends know also. Years ago churches were open during the week for anyone to wander in to pray, however now, because of safety concerns, most churches stay locked. We would like the community to know we are an active and "alive" church and offer this opportunity to anyone who needs a quiet space, even if it is only for one hour a week.

Save the Dates for Upcoming Events at SUMC

Saturday, November 5 from 9 am - 4 pm is our Holly Day Market. We will have over 45 vendors present (some with multiple tables) and will use all three floors in the church! Santa will be visiting that day and we'll have food available for purchase, too. Bring your friends and family and get started on your Christmas shopping early! All proceeds from the sale of table spaces will be put toward the bell tower fund. Proceeds from food sold wil be split between our Youth Group and the bell tower fund. On Saturday, December 3 our 3rd Annual Pizza with Santa will take place from 6-8 pm. Admission is $5.00 per person for two slices of pizza and beverage. Children 5 and under are free. Once again this year we'll be doing "Photos with Santa" - for a small donation (which will also be put toward our bell tower fund), we will take a picture of your child with Santa and email it to you so you can print or share right from your own computer. This was a big hit last year! Please contact the church office with any questions.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month

"Let the thought sink deep into the heart of every church, that their minister will be such a minister as their prayers make him...How perilous is the condition of that minister...whose heart is not encouraged, whose hands are not strengthened, and who is not upheld by the prayers of his people." "It is a fearful expense that minsters are ever allowed to enter the pulpit without being preceded, accompanied, and followed by the earnest prayers of the churches. It is no marvel that the pulpit is so powerless, and ministers so disheartened when there are so few to hold up their hands...When the churches cease to pray for ministers, ministers will no longer be a blessing to the church." Gardner Spring (1785-1873) The Core Booklet

Copies of the pastor prayers pages for the month of October are in the back of the sanctuary or you can read them in the online version of the October Courier -

November CORE Prayer Assignment

During November everyone prays the blue pages for church leadership. Read the introductory page in blue leadership section titled "31 days of prayer for the leadership of Stroudsburg United Methodist Church". This will set your frame of reference to pray for the individual group leaders and each group member by name. Ask once (believing God granted it when you ask) and then each following day thank Him for providing what we asked even though we do not see it with our natural eyes yet.
