Gather

This Sunday

This Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. We'll be lighting our advent wreath candles at both services. Jeff Weber will preach again in Pastor Bob's absence. His message this Sunday will be "Hopeless - not!" We'll bless the quilts made by My Brothers' Keepers this Sunday and we'll hear from Liz Miller, Chairperson of Missions at both services, too!

Table Project

Table Project is an online church software program that allows church members and friends to sit at a virtual table. One cool feature is that we can post prayer requests on the table and others can respond by praying for the person. When the prayer is prayed, you can indicate that the person has been prayed for on the page and a running count of how many prayers were lifted up! Another feature allows Small Groups to stay connected privately among themselves and only themselves. The leaders of the Small Groups will have the option of opening their Table page to everyone or just those who are members of their Small Group. If the group is private then no one else sees their content. A feature I really like is called Serve. Here we can post the different volunteer needs we have in the church. We can explain in detail what the need is and people can sign up to volunteer for this specific need. Pretty cool, huh? I believe our new Stroudsburg UMC Table Project will be helpful to us on a number of levels to stay connected with one another. Go to this new page and sign up today! Then fill out your profile and start exploring the content we already started. Add some content of your own: prayer requests, volunteer opportunities, etc.

Weekly sermons at SUMC

Do you enjoy listening to the weekly sermons here at SUMC? Would you like to listen to them even when you are on vacation or out of town? Well, we do have all the sermons available for you to listen to and they are typically posted to our church website each Sunday. And if you have an iPod or iPad, you can subscribe to the sermons so they will automatically be downloaded to your device for easy listening! To sign up for the automatic feed, go to our sermon page: http://www.stroudsburgumc.com/SUMCNeweSermons.html and then click on the iTunes logo. This will connect you to our iTunes page where you can listen to the sermons or view them in iTunes where you can sign up for the automatic feed. Share this link with your friends and family members. We hope you enjoy this way of staying connected to our sermons here at SUMC.

Live streaming worship at 8:30 am!

We are still live streaming 8:30 worship. This means that when you cannot be here physically for worship due to illness or vacation, you can still worship with us here at Stroudsburg UMC! Here is the link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/stroudsburg-umc-worship In an effort to help make live streaming look better, we are asking the 8:30 worshippers to move forward instead of sitting in the back of the church. Your willingness to move forward will help viewers at home see that we actually do have people in worship, instead of them seeing all the empty pews toward the front of the sanctuary. Please help us to enhance this new feature of worship by moving forward and sitting in the front of the sanctuary. This will also leave the prized back seats for our visitors! Thank you for your cooperation.

Helping Hands Ministry

We are seeking volunteers to help with our Helping Hands Ministry here in our church. Volunteers are needed to help with tasks such as grocery shopping, making meals, giving rides, etc. If you are interested please contact Cathy Doane or myself. Also, if you have signed up in the past to help and wish to continue or be taken off our list, please let us know that as well. Thank you!

Our Special Member of the Week:

Anne Grant, Pleasant Valley Manor, Room 204, 4227 Manor Drive, Stroudsburg, PA 18360. Please remember her in prayer and if possible, please send a card.

SUMC T-shirts, Mugs and Commemorative Tiles for Sale

We still have t-shirts for sale. Small, Medium, Large & Extra Large $12.00; 2XL available for $15.00. New glass mugs are available for $7.00 and they are made in the USA! Mugs are given to our new visitors on Sundays. Purchase of one mug will offset the cost of mugs for 2 visitors. We also still have some commemorative ceramic tiles available for sale - $10.00 each. These tiles were sold during our 225th anniversary in 2013. Contact the church office if you are interested.

Large Print Bulletins and Hearing Devices Available

Second Annual Pizza with Santa Event

We will be holding our second annual "Pizza with Santa" event on Saturday, December 5, 2015 at 6:00 pm in the Fellowship Room. This year we'll be adding "Photos with Santa" - you will be able to get your photo or your child's/children's photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus and we will email you a JPEG file for you to print from your computer. We're asking for a donation for the photos and all proceeds from this event will be put toward our bell tower repair project. Admission will be the same as last year - $3.00 per person and will include two slices of pizza and a soft drink. Children under 5 are free. We need people to RSVP so we know how many to plan for. Please either call the church office - 570-421-6020 or send an email to sumc@stroudsburgumc.com. We need volunteers to help with decorating, setting up, serving, clean up and donations toward the cost of pizza. We also need plates, cups, napkins and soda. Kim Kopec will be recruiting 'carolers' to sing Christmas carols on Main Street to welcome people to our event. Sign up sheets for carolers are also in the back of the sanctuary. Please call me with any questions. Thank you! Jackie

Grow!

Small Groups

Do you belong to a Small Group? If not, you really should seriously consider doing so. There are a variety of opportunities available which you can see on our website. You will be able to see a brief description of each Small Group, view when and where they meet, and see if there are openings to join the groups. Check out our active Small Groups and consider joining one of them. Alternatively, do you have a passion or interest? Then maybe you can start a brand new Small Group. Contact JoAnn Calkins or Pastor Bob for more information.

Experiencing God Small Group

Another class of Experiencing God begins Tuesday, November 3 at 7 pm in the Lounge. This class will be for 10 weeks. Leader is Peggy Stewart. There is no cost for the study guide, but we encourage baked goods and contributions for the Holiday Market November 14. Bring only your Bible and a journal. Experiencing God is our basic Small Group that is offered periodically as it is our goal that every person in the church, new and long time worshipers complete this as a common base for spiritual growth. Anyone who has completed the class is encouraged to be a mentor or co-leader as a next step for completing training to be a small group leader. Just tell us of your interest! God is inviting you to experience Him in an intimate love relationship through which he reveals to you His will, His ways, and His work. Through the biblical principles in this course, God can teach you how to: Know when He is speaking to you, recognize His activity around you, adjust your life to Him and His ways, identify what He wants to do through you, respond to His activity in your life. To sign up contact Peggy Stewart or Jackie in the church office.

No materials are required. Current members will share their equipment. Save the Bells and our Bell Tower

We have reached out to many community resources in order to raise funds to repair our church bell tower. Stroudsburg United Methodist Church does a lot for our community - some of which you may not be aware of - we have two soup kitchens weekly, we host families through Family Promise throughout the year, we have Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from Pack 86 meeting here weekly (They also hold community events throughout the year here in our church), we support Oasis of Love, a local food pantry located here in Stroudsburg. These are just a few of the outreach programs we have here at SUMC that benefit the community. These are in addition to our worship services held each Sunday. Please continue to share this page with your friends, neighbors, coworkers, family - EVERYONE! Every little bit helps. We all miss the bells so let's pull together and give back whatever you can to help support our bell tower repairs! Thank you to all who have donated so far! http://www.gofundme.com/km4ab3w8 Our Facebook page is https://www.facebook.com/SUMCSavetheBells?ref=hl
