Celebrating 225 Years!

Gather

This Sunday

This Sunday's sermon will focus on Faith and Works: "The Importance of Works". We'll continue the scripture of James 2 and explore our faith and our actions. Our faith is not carried out if we don't act accordingly. Join us on Sunday as we hear James' important message of faith and actions and how one cannot be successful without the other.

Table Project

Table Project is an online church software program that allows church members and friends to sit at a virtual table. One cool feature is that we can post prayer requests on the table and others can respond by praying for the person. When the prayer is prayed, you can indicate that the person has been prayed for on the page and a running count of how many prayers were lifted up! Another feature allows Small Groups to stay connected privately among themselves and only themselves. The leaders of the Small Groups will have the option of opening their Table page to everyone or just those who are members of their Small Group. If the group is private then no one else sees their content. A feature I really like is called Serve. Here we can post the different volunteer needs we have in the church. We can explain in detail what the need is and people can sign up to volunteer for this specific need. Pretty cool, huh? I believe our new Stroudsburg UMC Table Project will be helpful to us on a number of levels to stay connected with one another. Go to this new page and sign up today! Then fill out your profile and start exploring the content we already started. Add some content of your own: prayer requests, volunteer opportunities, etc.

Weekly sermons at SUMC

Do you enjoy listening to the weekly sermons here at SUMC? Would you like to listen to them even when you are on vacation or out of town? Well, we do have all the sermons available for you to listen to and they are typically posted to our church website each Sunday. And if you have an iPod or iPad, you can subscribe to the sermons so they will automatically be downloaded to your device for easy listening! To sign up for the automatic feed, go to our sermon page: http://www.stroudsburgumc.com/SUMCNeweSermons.html and then click on the iTunes logo. This will connect you to our iTunes page where you can listen to the sermons or view them in iTunes where you can sign up for the automatic feed. Share this link with your friends and family members. We hope you enjoy this way of staying connected to our sermons here at SUMC.

We are now live streaming worship at 8:30 am!

We are now live streaming 8:30 worship. This means that when you cannot be here physically for worship due to illness or vacation, you can still worship with us here at Stroudsburg UMC! Here is the link: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/stroudsburg-umc-worship In an effort to help make live streaming look better, we are asking the 8:30 worshippers to move forward instead of sitting in the back of the church. Your willingness to move forward will help viewers at home see that we actually do have people in worship, instead of them seeing all the empty pews toward the front of the sanctuary. Please help us to enhance this new feature of worship by moving forward and sitting in the front of the sanctuary. This will also leave the prized back seats for our visitors! Thank you for your cooperation.

Sunday Pre-Service Prayer Teams

Please give prayerful consideration to participating in the Sunday Pre-Service Prayer Teams. Teams should consist of at least three people and no more than five persons. This means we are looking for between six and ten people every month (3-5 for each service) who will meet before each service and ask our Father that the Holy Spirit not only be present, but work through those leading our service and work in and through those participating in the service. A sign up sheet has been posted in the Fellowship Room (on the bulletin board near the kitchen). You may also call the church office @ 421-6020 to sign up or Dave Cottle @ 570-242-1480 for more information. Join with us to pray, grow deeper in the Lord and watch as He changes lives and makes a difference one person at a time. He has said, "....test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it". Malachi 3:10.

The Patriarchs (Group Bible Study)

Acolyte Ministry

We would like to propose an initiative to re-establish an active Acolyte Ministry at Stroudsburg United Methodist Church. This ministry would be open to youth as well as adults. The focus, however, would be on the youth for this is often the first opportunity children in the 3rd to 6th grades have to serve in the church. The purpose is to promote the mission of the church from the inside by growing our youth and adults to make a difference by their service being leaders in worship and preparing them for the responsibility of gathering disciples for Christ. We propose to begin recruiting and training acolytes beginning in September and have a full contingency by Anniversary Sunday. There will be no initial cost to begin this ministry. A sign up sheet is in the back of the sanctuary for those interested. If you have questions, please see Diane Rogell or Pam Cool.

Holiday Mail for Heroes

Once again this year I'll be collecting holiday cards to send to our military members in hospitals, clinics and nursing homes. It only takes a minute to fill out an extra card or two to show your appreciation for the sacrifice members of the military community make. Please do not include any kind of letter, monetary donation or other insert in the card and don't use cards with glitter. Use a generic greeting such as "Dear Service Member" and sign your name at the bottom if you wish. You don't need to include your return address and the envelope is not necessary either; the card is what is most important. The deadline to mail the cards is December 6. Please drop off your cards to me in the church office or leave them outside my office in the box next to my door. For more information, please visit: redcross.org/holidaymail Thank you! Jackie
