Celebrating 225 Years!

Table Project

Table Project is an online church software program that allows church members and friends to sit at a virtual table. One cool feature is that we can post prayer requests on the table and others can respond by praying for the person. When the prayer is prayed, you can indicate that the person has been prayed for on the page and a running count of how many prayers were lifted up! Another feature allows Small Groups to stay connected privately among themselves and only themselves. The leaders of the Small Groups will have the option of opening their Table page to everyone or just those who are members of their Small Group. If the group is private then no one else sees their content. A feature I really like is called Serve. Here we can post the different volunteer needs we have in the church. We can explain in detail what the need is and people can sign up to volunteer for this specific need. Pretty cool, huh? I believe our new Stroudsburg UMC Table Project will be helpful to us on a number of levels to stay connected with one another. Go to this new page and sign up today! Then fill out your profile and start exploring the content we already started. Add some content of your own: prayer requests, volunteer opportunities, etc.

Trip to Baseball Hall of Fame April 20, 2013

We are planning a trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY on Saturday, April 20, 2013. Admission to the museum is $19.50 for adults, $12.00 for seniors (65 and older), $7.00 for children 7-12. Hours are 9 am - 5 pm. We will meet in the Ann Street parking lot of the church and carpool up to Cooperstown. Since the ride is about 3 1/2 hours long, we will probably meet fairly early that morning. Once the time of departure is determined, updates will be in upcoming bulletins and weekly eNews publications. Sign up sheets are in the back of the sanctuary for those interested. If you have additional questions, please call the church office or visit the Hall of Fame website:

Weekly sermons at SUMC

Do you enjoy listening to the weekly sermons here at SUMC? Would you like to listen to them even when you are on vacation or out of town? Well, we do have all the sermons available for you to listen to and they are typically posted to our church website each Sunday. And if you have an iPod or iPad, you can subscribe to the sermons so they will automatically be downloaded to your device for easy listening! To sign up for the automatic feed, go to our sermon page: and then click on the iTunes logo. This will connect you to our iTunes page where you can listen to the sermons or view them in iTunes where you can sign up for the automatic feed. Share this link with your friends and family members. We hope you enjoy this way of staying connected to our sermons here at SUMC.

Helping Hands Ministry

The Helping Hands Ministry will provide help to those in our church family who find themselves in need for any number of reasons. Some members need a ride to a doctor's visit for a routine checkup. Others need rides to cancer treatments or to hear the results of a serious test. Another person might need some meals prepared for them during a time when they are recovering from surgery. Our desire is to be a good church family who helps each other out. We never know what might happen in life or when we, ourselves, might be in need of some help. Our job is not to pry into an individual's personal life, but to simply help them in a time of need. So, if you are willing to drive a person to an appointment or provide a simple meal for someone, please contact us. By doing these simple things we are, in fact, being the hands and feet of Jesus right here in our community! Please consider helping by getting involved in the Helping Hands Ministry!

We are now live streaming worship at 8:30 am!

Thanks to the efforts of Alex Herrero, Drenen Tucker, and Paul Edinger, we are now live streaming 8:30 worship. This means that when you cannot be here physically for worship due to illness or vacation, you can still worship with us here at Stroudsburg UMC! Here is the link: In an effort to help make live streaming look better, we are asking the 8:30 worshippers to move forward instead of sitting in the back of the church. Your willingness to move forward will help viewers at home see that we actually do have people in worship, instead of them seeing all the empty pews toward the front of the sanctuary. Please help us to enhance this new feature of worship by moving forward and sitting in the front of the sanctuary. This will also leave the prized back seats for our visitors! Thank you for your cooperation.

Make a Difference!

Give to a Mission

A variety of missions are supported in our church. You can make a difference both locally and around the world by giving to these missions. A list of missions we support is available in the back of the sanctuary. You can also suggest a new mission that interests you by providing the name and address of the mission, as well as some details about what this particular mission does.

Helping Hands Ministry

Cathy Doane has started a new ministry at SUMC. The Helping Hands Ministry exists to utilize our God-given gifts and talents to assist members of the body of Christ. We grow together in Christ's love by helping each other and just by being there for each other in times of need. The areas of service where help is needed are: making meals, grocery shopping, phone calls, visitation, prayer, transportation, light housekeeping and emergency response. If you are willing to serve in any of these areas, please contact Cathy Doane or the church office. Thank you!

Fundraising Campaign for New Tables & Chairs

Our custodian, Matt Parton has started a fundraising campaign to raise money for new tables and chairs here at SUMC. Our goal is $5,000. You can make a check payable to SUMC and place it in the offering plate on Sunday marked for the fundraiser. With donations from members, outside friends and memorial contributions we have already raised $2370.00 - new tables were ordered and have been delivered to the church!! Thank you to Matt for starting this very successful fundraiser and thank you to all that have donated so far!

Missions Committee Book Sale in April

The Missions Committee will be collecting books for the Book Sale in April. The date of the sale will be Saturday, April 27 from 9 am - 2 pm. You can start bringing in books and leave them in the blue room downstairs in the back part of the Sunday School room. Boxes will also be available in the Fellowship Room and in the Narthex.

Chris Cook's Eagle Scout Project

Chris Cook is selling candy to raise money for his Eagle Scout Project. If you would like to purchase candy bars, please see Chris Cook on Sunday after services.

Oasis of Love Food Pantry

Oasis of Love is a local food pantry supported by SUMC. Recently I spoke with the director, Frank, who let me know his last trip to the food bank was very disappointing as the shelves were nearly bare. I am asking for food donations to help Oasis of Love provide for those needing food in our community. Please leave your donations of non-perishable foods in the sanctuary and I will arrange to get them to Frank. You can also drop items off during the week at the church office. Thank you in advance for any help you can provide and thank you to those that have already brought in donations. Jackie

Mission Committee Supports One Great Hour of Sharing

For more than 50 years, United Methodist congregations have been taking part in a special One Great Hour of Sharing offering, laying the foundation for UMCOR's (United Methodist Committee on Relief) ministry of relief and hope. Donations received through this offering, along with other undesignated gifts made throughout the year, make it possible for UMCOR to use 100% of all other contributions on the projects specified by donors, instead of on administrative or fundraising costs. UMCOR DOES NOT receive United Methodist World Service or apportionment funds, so without special offerings, UMCOR would not exist. UMCOR keeps its operating costs under 10% of total budget. Donations to UMCOR may also be used to allow UMCOR to respond to disasters immediately after an event. Natural or civil disasters of such magnitude overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own. Through UMCOR, United Methodists extend loving care to people within the United States, as well as those in Africa, Asia, Central and South America and the Caribbean. These beneficiaries are seen as partners, not victims, and UMCOR works to empower them. Wherever possible, UMCOR cooperates with other aid organizations to extend its reach. In its holistic response to disasters, UMCOR: Offers disaster preparedness training; provides essentials supplies and care, both physical and psychological, in the immediate aftermath of a disaster; and supports long-term rebuilding efforts and assists communities as they adapt. If you didn't turn in your OGHS envelope on March 10th, please consider putting a check in it and bringing it next week. As mentioned, your support of OGHS makes it possible for UMCOR to fulfill its mission.
