This Week's Sermon

The good news is that at SUMC we love our children enough to watch out for them. The bad news is that this does not happen everywhere in our society. And it is advent. A time when the baby Jesus first entered our lives. Praise the Lord! And the next day begins hunting season.

Small Groups

Do you belong to a Small Group? If not, you really should seriously consider doing so. There are a variety of opportunities available which you can see on our website here. You will be able to see brief description of each Small Group, view when and where they meet, and see if there are openings to join the groups. Check out our active Small Groups and consider joining one of them. Alternatively, do you have a passion or interest? Then maybe you can start a brand new Small Group. Contact JoAnn Calkins or Pastor Bob for more information.

Digging Deeper Small Group

The Digging Deeper Small Group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7pm. Meetings will resume on October 25 in the Conference Room beside Pastor Bob's study. This group will be starting a new video series entitled, "Keep Climbing: Why God Doesn't Give You Everything You Want."  This Small Group exists to dig deeper into our faith and grow spiritually. We do this through study, sharing our stories and experiences with each other, and hold each other up in love and mutual accountability. You can join this Small Group by emailing the leader, Pastor Bob, or calling the church office.

Small Group Discussion: Gifts - the Joy of Serving God

What spiritual gifts do you have? What contributions can you make to the church, so that it becomes what God intends - a light in a dark world? How do you cultivate a servant's heart and your spiritual gifts without wiping yourself out in the process? Through spiritual exercise, bible study, and group discussions, this study will guide us to the answers. Consider joining us: Mondays at 7:00 pm - in the church Lounge. For more information or to reserve your spot in the group, contact: Peggy Stewart 424-0625 or 350-8589.

Give to a Mission

A variety of missions are supported in our church. You can make a difference both locally and around the world by giving to these missions. A list of missions we support is available in the back of the sanctuary. You can also suggest a new mission that interests you by providing the name and address of the mission, as well as some details about what this particular mission does.

Membership & Evangelism is organizing the Nursery to be staffed during worship at 11am on Sundays. If you are willing to volunteer to staff the nursery, please contact one of the M&E members or call the church office (570-421-6020). All volunteers must go through a child abuse and criminal background check. This is required as part of our Safe Sanctuaries Policy to ensure that the children are protected and also to put new parents' minds at ease. Please consider helping this important ministry!

Training for Worship Media Operators - We need your help and it's easy!

The weekly worship experience at Stroudsburg UMC involes interaction with the congregation as we sing hymns, recite creeds, pray prayers, and experience other elements of worship. The congregation finds it helpful to project these elements up on the screen. This means we need some people who can simply press a button to project these worship elements at the appropriate time. We also need sound operators to mix the sound properly in each worship experience. These behind-the-scenes media operators are invaluable in worship and provide some who are not comfortable in being up front to still be actively involved in leadership. We need you! If you can press one button, they you can be a media operator. It really is that simple! Equipped with a few important bits of information you can easily become a worship media operator. The sound system looks much more complicated, but with the right knowledge, this also is a manageable task. On Sunday morning, December 11 at 10:00 am in the sanctuary we will provide an overview of the importance of this ministry and details on how you can be a media operator. We will begin with prayer, share the "big picture" of how important this ministry is to worship, and then provide detailed steps on how to be a worship media operator. Some of you are not available at this time due to Sunday school class, but don't worry; we will provide this training again on January 8 at 12:20 pm. Remember, if you can press one button, you can be a worship media operator. Join us on December 11 or January 8 to find out how. We need your help and it's easy!

Pledge cards are located at the back of the sanctuary. Offering envelopes are in the Fellowship Room. If you can deliver a box to a friend or neighbor who cannot make it to church, that would be appreciated! Thank you!
